The phone ringing during service is expensive in a way that never appears on a P&L. Someone stops what they are doing, takes an order by hand, and repeats it back while the queue at the counter grows.
Start by measuring the peak
Count calls in your busiest hour for a week. Most kitchens find the volume is concentrated in a narrow window, which means a small shift online produces a disproportionate improvement in service.
Give callers somewhere to go
- Put the ordering link in your voicemail greeting and hold message
- Print it on receipts, menus, and packaging
- Make it the first thing on your social profiles and Google Business listing
Keep the phone open anyway
Some customers will never order online, and they are often the most loyal ones. The goal is not to eliminate calls but to move the easy, repetitive ones online so staff have time for the callers who genuinely need a person.
